Comprehensive Federal Employee Benefits Training

Course Highlights and Objectives

This 5-day training course is designed to provide comprehensive up-to-date information on all employee benefits. Participants will learn:

  • How to counsel current employees, separating employees and potential retirees concerning all employee benefits;

  • The age and service requirements for all types of retirements under CSRS and FERS;

  • How to manually compute all types of CSRS and FERS coverage determinations and annuities including cases involving deposits, redeposits, post-1956 military service deposits, employees transferring to FERS and death-in-service cases;

  • How to process a CSRS or FERS retirement;

  • The basic eligibility requirements for benefits under Social Security, how to provide an accurate estimate of future Social Security benefits, and the applicability of the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision;

  • The basic provisions of the Thrift Savings Plan, including participation requirements, investment options, loan program, in-service withdrawals, and distribution options; and 

  • Review of FEHB, FEGLI, Flexible Spending Accounts, FEDVIP, and Long Term Care Insurance.
